When Snow Attacks!

Somewhere between 5 and 6 AM it began snowing in Marshall.  Much of the nation is under attack by this frigid fiend.  I really like snow.  I actually really like severe weather.  I guess I'm odd...I really like the Discovery Channel series "Storm Chasers."  As much fun as I think severe weather is, it has a real impact on many people's lives.

In the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, it has been wreaking havoc.  The schools there had ONE day of school this week, Monday.  There's been ice on the highways, and I'm sure the economic impact is HUGE!  Not only is local commerce being affected, but this is SUPER BOWL WEEK at Jerry World in my home town of Arlington Texas.  I can see the tears of most business owners in the DFW area who have lost more money than they care to count because of people not traveling, or staying indoors until the last minute.

Besides money, I am very saddened thinking about all the displaced people in our nation who are trying to survive during this terrible weather.  The weather is affecting all the gulf states.

I began thinking about how to best use my day.  I was unsure if I was expected to be in the church office or not.  School was cancelled in Marshall today, so Sarah and the kids were home.  I really wanted to stay with them and hang out.  I decided I'd compromise.  When life gives you lemons, make something lemony out of them.  I'd only be out for a few hours and instead of going to the church, I'd try to go out and visit some of my students who were home due to the weather.  Instead of sitting in an office out of obligation, I'd try to hang out and play X-Box with some of them.

Upon leaving my house, I quickly lost control of my truck 2 times.  Granted, it was because I was 'testing' the roads.  I also slid a couple of times while stopping (NOT while testing the roads).  I called the office and told our secretary that I was going back home.  It was a bit more dangerous than I was comfortable with.

So, I returned to my warm house to my wife and kiddos.  Colin was very glad that I was already home.  We played some and then we went outside.  We got all bundled up, even Carley went outside, and we had a lot of fun.

  1. We hadn't gotten mail in awhile out here because it was all stuck in Abilene! What happened to the "Come rains, snow, sleet or ice" talk? lol Glad you stayed safe and I'm sure this time with your family was/is precious! We had to cancel paintball with our youth because the high for today is still around freezing and we got MORE snow last night too! Most of them didn't seem too disappointed that they wouldn't have to act tough out there. :)

  2. Well, we still got our mail. Days like this remind me of the first chapter of The Shack...hopefully I don't wonder into the wilderness though
